AAA Central Penn wants to make sure that local children in foster care know they have a community that cares about them. Throughout October AAA Central Penn, through its AAA Cares community volunteer program, is collecting donations to fill duffel bags with comfort and personal care items. The auto club is partnering with Bethany Christian Services to distribute the duffel bags to children in the foster care system throughout AAA Central Penn’s nine-county region.
Duffels of Comfort collection items include clothing, school supplies, reusable water bottles and personal care and comfort items such as deodorant, diapers and wipes, blankets, books and puzzles. The duffel bags also provide children with a bag of their own to hold their personal belongings.
“With the amazing partnership of Bethany Christian Services, Duffels of Comfort will help support local children who are going through a challenging time,” said AAA Central Penn President and CEO Jodie Daubert. “In Pennsylvania alone, 15,000 children are in foster care. Often, these children are given trash bags in which to carry their belongings. By giving them a bag to call their own, filled with personal care and comfort items, we’re letting foster children know that their community cares about them. Our entire AAA Central Penn team is committed to the communities we serve, and our AAA Cares Duffels of Comfort donation drive is one of many ways we show it.”
AAA Central Penn is accepting donation drop-offs during operating hours at all ten of its branch locations. Donations can also be sent through a curated Amazon Wishlist. An updated list of items needed and more information on Duffels of Comfort can be found on AAA Central Penn’s website.
