Jim Steeley, the President and CEO of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), joins PHEAA Access Partner Tiffanie DeVan to reflect on some the Agency’s successes and highlights from 2022.
Since taking on the role of President and CEO in 2018, Steeley has focused on expanding PHEAA’s reach and impact in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Under his leadership, PHEAA has launched several initiatives to help more students afford higher education and achieve their academic goals.
One of PHEAA’s key programs is the PA State Grant Program, which provides financial aid to eligible Pennsylvania residents attending approved colleges and universities. The PA State Grant is need-based and is designed to help students pay for tuition, fees, and other education-related expenses.
PHEAA also offers the PA Forward Student Loan Program, which is a suite of borrower-friendly, Pennsylvania-based, private student loan products allowing students and families to borrow up to the total cost of attendance with competitively low interest rates and a variety of upfront and repayment benefits.
In addition to financial aid, PHEAA provides a range of free college planning services to help students and their families navigate the college application process. This includes FAFSA completion sessions and financial aid counseling, as well as resources to help students choose the right college and prepare for success once they get there.
PHEAA’s work has had a significant impact on Pennsylvania families and their ability to afford higher education. Created in 1963, the organization has provided financial aid to millions of students and helped them achieve their dreams of earning a college degree.
