The international soccer stage is about to welcome a familiar face from the Mid-Penn Conference. Casey New, a standout defender for the Cumberland Valley Eagles, has been called up to represent the Czech Republic on their national youth soccer team.

The news marks a milestone for the sophomore defender at Cumberland Valley High School. New, a member of the Class of 2028, balances her time playing between the powerhouse Cumberland Valley varsity program and her club, Keystone FC’s Girls Academy team.

New has become a cornerstone of the Eagles’ defense under head coach George Gemberling. She was recognized as Mid-Penn Conference (PIAA) player to watch in 2025 and has been invited to US Soccer and Girls Academy Talent ID events.

While New has made her name on the soccer field, her heritage helped pave the way for this unique opportunity with the Czech Football Federation.

“As a dual citizen, it has always been a dream of mine to represent the Czech Republic. This opportunity means so much to me because I get to represent my mother’s country and play in front of my family”, New said. “I am excited to play at such a high level with great players who will push me to get better.”

After traveling to Ohio in 2025 to train under the Czech Republic’s Women’s assistant coach, she earned an invitation to play on the national team and will travel to the Czech Republic next week to join her team, and then on to Serbia with her teammates for a three game UEFA tournament vs. Greece, Austria and Serbia.
