Amidst the sea of gray uniforms and somber salutes at the funeral for Pennsylvania State Police Corporal Timothy J. O’Connor Jr., a small, soft tribute stood out: a teddy bear made for his young daughter, Kenzie.
The “Timmy-Bear,” as it has been affectionately named, was custom-crafted by Heather Smith, wife of Parkesburg Borough Police Captain Steve Smith. The bear was sewn using one of O’Connor’s own retired uniforms, ensuring that his daughter has a piece of her father’s legacy to hold onto.
The bear, dressed in a PSP uniform, has O’Connor’s last name and badge number of the feet. For Kenzie, the gift will serve as a reminder of her father who was widely described as a “selfless protector.” O’Connor, 40, was killed in the line of duty on March 8, 2026, during a traffic stop in West Caln Township.
“To describe Tim as passionate, courageous, and selfless is to capture just a glimpse of the extraordinary man he was,” his family shared in a statement. “His spirit will continue to inspire acts of kindness and bravery.”
Thousands of officers from across the country lined the streets of Downingtown as a massive motorcade escorted O’Connor to his final resting place. Officials at Chester County Camp Cadet, where O’Connor served as a mentor since 2016, announced that “Cabin 2″—where he stayed every summer—will be renamed in his honor.
Corporal O’Connor is survived by his wife, Casey, and their daughter. The Pennsylvania State Troopers Association has emphasized that the law enforcement family will continue to look after the O’Connors in the years to come.
Those wishing to support the family can donate to the PSTA Survivor’s Fund.
