Elizabethtown College students will have greater access to transformational learning experiences that prepare them to become the next generation of globally engaged leaders and peacemakers thanks to a $3 million gift from alumna Judy ’68, H’25 Ware and her husband, Paul, to establish the Judy ’68, H’25 and Paul Ware Scholars Program.
“The Ware Scholars Program will give our students extraordinary access to opportunities that put their education and their values into practice through purposeful, real-world learning,” Elizabethtown College President Betty Rider said. “These are experiences that bring our Educate for Service mission to life and prepare students to use their talents, empathy, and intellect in service of others. We are deeply grateful to Judy and Paul for their extraordinary generosity and for empowering generations of Blue Jays to make a positive impact in the world.”
The Ware Scholars Program will establish a permanent endowment that awards students an annual scholarship and funding for meaningful Signature Learning Experiences (SLE) centered on peacebuilding, civic engagement, and global understanding.
“Paul and I are pleased to help bring the Ware Scholars Program to Elizabethtown College,” Judy said. “We feel Etown provides a wonderful foundation for our students as they are educated to serve our world through building peace, civic engagement, and global issues. This is such an exciting time to be engaged with the College.”
Ware Scholars will gain hands-on experience understanding conflict, engaging constructively with communities, and contributing to a more peaceful and just world through:
- Internships and project-based work with nonprofits, nongovernmental organizations, government agencies, and other organizations focused on peace, justice, diplomacy, and nonviolence.
- Faculty-mentored research and collaborative scholarship.
- Study abroad and intercultural learning opportunities.
- College- and community-based learning and service initiatives aligned with Etown’s Educate for Service mission.
Beyond financial support, the Ware Scholars Program will bring each annual cohort together through shared programming and a distinctive community of scholars.
Ware Scholars will engage in programming connected with Etown’s Institute for Engagement, Mission, and Impact, preparing them to lead with empathy, intercultural understanding, civic responsibility, and a commitment to peaceful dialogue.
