Former Gettysburg Mayor Chad-Alan Carr was arrested Friday morning following a Pennsylvania State Police investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse.
The 48-year-old Carr, who abruptly resigned from office on March 3 after serving only two months as mayor, is facing two felony counts related to the photographing or filming of child sexual abuse and one misdemeanor count of corruption of minors.
According to court documents, the charges stem from incidents that allegedly occurred between 2011 and 2013. The Adams County District Attorney said Carr solicited nude photos and videos from a 16 year old boy online who Carr began grooming years before.
PSP are asking witnesses or other potential victims to come forward.
Carr’s arrest comes just over a week after he stepped down from his role as mayor, citing “personal legal issues.” At the time of his resignation, Carr also vacated his position as the executive and artistic director of the Gettysburg Community Theatre, an organization he founded.
Gettysburg Borough Council President Matthew Moon, currently serving as interim mayor, had previously expressed the council’s wishes for Carr to resolve his legal matters but has not yet commented on the specific nature of the felony charges.
Carr was elected in November 2025, defeating incumbent Rita Frealing. His departure has left the borough seeking a replacement; the council began accepting applications for a new mayor earlier this week.
Carr is currently awaiting arraignment. He’s behind bars on $100,000 bail.
