The Northern York County Regional Police Department has launched an investigation into a shocking act of animal cruelty that took place Sunday in the heart of Dover Borough.
At approximately 1:28 PM on April 26, 2026, officers were dispatched to the first block of North Main Street following a report from a local witness. According to police statements, a witness watched as a male driver slowed his vehicle and abruptly threw a dog out into the street before speeding away.
The witness, who immediately rushed to the animal’s aid and called 911, provided investigators with the following description of the suspect and vehicle: A white male, driving a black Chevrolet pickup truck, heading northbound on North Main Street.
The dog, a light-colored, medium-sized female, was found to be in poor physical condition. Officers noted she appeared malnourished and sustained injuries from the fall.
The canine was transported to the SPCA for urgent medical treatment, where staff have affectionately named her “Goldie.” While she was wearing a collar at the time of the incident, she had no identification tags and was not micro-chipped, making it difficult for authorities to track her previous owners.
“It is a heartbreaking situation, but we are grateful for the bystander who stepped in to save her life,” authorities noted in the case file.
The Northern York County Regional Police are reviewing surveillance footage and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the black Chevrolet pickup involved.
