Governor Orders Commonwealth Flags at Half-Staff to Honor PennDot Worker

Governor Tom Wolf has ordered all commonwealth flags on the Capitol Complex and at all commonwealth facilities in Elk County to fly at half-staff to honor Timothy Fitch.

Fitch, a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation employee, died on Monday, June 14, 2021, while performing his job duties.

According to PSP Ridgway Station troopers, Fitch was offloading highway construction equipment around 12:30 p.m. and had exited the cab of his PennDOT tractor trailer in the gravel pull-off near the 33000 block of Portland Mills Road.

Troopers say Fitch was standing between the truck and a disconnected low-boy trailer when the truck drifted backwards for unknown reasons.

Fitch couldn’t get out of the way of the drifting truck and the truck’s tires rolled over Fitch, pinning him to the ground, troopers say.

Flags shall be lowered to half-staff and remain lowered until sunset on Saturday, June 19, 2021.
