Please join the Hampden Township Veterans Recognition Committee on Sunday December 4, at 2:00 p.m. for Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day as we recall the events that took place on December 7, 1941 and pay tribute to the 3,581 military and civilian personnel wounded
or killed eighty-one years ago.
The public is invited to attend the event at the Hampden Township Veterans Park at 4345 Marketplace Way in Enola.
A special guest expected to be in attendance is William Caparella. Caparella, who will
be 100 years young on January 16, 2023, served his country as part of the Greatest Generation in the US Navy as a Seabee in WWII – most notably at the Battle of Okinawa fought from April 1 to June 21, 1945. Mr. Caparella will be joined by his daughter Vicki.
The program will begin with posting of the colors by the West Fairview American Legion Post 984 and the Enola American Legion Post 751. The National Anthem will be sung by Mr. Matt Robinson.
The keynote speaker is Colonel Christopher Ricci. Col. Ricci is a student at the United States Army War College. He was commissioned as an armor officer in 2002 and has served for over 20 years as an infantry officer and deployed in support of combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. He recently returned from Africa where he served as the senior advisor to the Tunisian military. Christopher and his wife Judith Ann are living in the Carlisle area while completing his tour at the War College.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Hampden Township Good Hope Fire Station at 1200 Good Hope Road, Mechanicsburg. An update will be posted the night before on Facebook @Hampden Township Veterans Recognition Committee.
