The luck of the Irish is returning to the state capital as the Harrisburg Downtown Improvement District (HDID) finalizes details for the 2026 St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Scheduled for Saturday, March 21, the event is expected to draw thousands of spectators to the city’s riverfront and downtown streets for a day of Celtic music, dancing, and community pride.

“This parade is more than just a celebration of Irish culture; it’s a celebration of Harrisburg’s spirit,” said a spokesperson for the Downtown Improvement District. “It brings people together from all walks of life to enjoy our beautiful riverfront and support our local small businesses.”

The parade serves as the grand finale of a month-long celebration of Irish heritage in Central Pennsylvania, following the Lucky Charm 4-Mile Race held earlier that afternoon.

The festivities kick off officially at 2:00 p.m., but the city will be buzzing much earlier. Parade participants will stage on City Island before crossing the Market Street Bridge to begin the official route.

  • The Route: From the Market Street Bridge, the procession will turn left onto 2nd Street, head north to North Street, turn left again, and loop back down Front Street to the finish.

  • The Sights: This year’s lineup features a vibrant mix of traditional and modern entertainment, including:

    • Authentic Irish pipe and drum bands.

    • The world-famous Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.

    • Step dancers from local Irish dance schools.

    • Festive floats, antique cars, and community marching bands.

While the parade is the centerpiece, Harrisburg’s businesses are leaning into the holiday spirit.

  • Lucky’s St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl: For the 21+ crowd, the “Official Lucky’s Bar Crawl” will take place the weekend prior (March 14) and continue through parade day, featuring local favorites like Zembie’s Sports Tavern, 704 Bar, and the Brownstone Lounge, which is hosting a “Shake Your Shamrocks” drag show.

  • Family Fun: Following the parade, families are encouraged to head to Strawberry Square for the announcement of parade winners, where free hot chocolate and cookies will be available while supplies last.

City officials are advising residents and visitors to plan for significant road closures.

  • Closures: Roads along the parade route will begin closing at 9:00 a.m. on the East Shore. The Market Street Bridge will be restricted to parade participants only starting at 11:00 a.m.

  • Parking: The Market Square Garage (34 S. 2nd St.) will offer a special $10 event rate from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Free street parking in the downtown district will be available after 5:00 p.m.
