The banks of the Susquehanna River are awash in color this Memorial Day weekend as the 58th annual Artsfest returns to Riverfront Park. The three-day festival, a cornerstone of the capital city’s cultural calendar, kicked off Saturday morning, drawing thousands of visitors to explore a massive outdoor gallery stretching between Forster and Walnut Streets.
“Artsfest isn’t just about commerce; it’s about connection,” said one event coordinator. “Seeing the community build a piece of permanent public art together really captures the spirit of what we try to do here every year.”
From Saturday, May 23 to Monday, May 25, 2026, the city is hosting more than 170 juried artisans from across the United States. The curated selection features handcrafted works in 16 distinct categories, including:
Fine Arts: Painting, photography, printmaking, and drawing.
Craft & Design: Hand-carved furniture, intricate jewelry, leatherwork, and fiber arts.
Media: Ceramics, glass, metalwork, and digital art.
While the artist booths form the heart of the event, Artsfest 2026 has expanded its footprint to include a sensory feast of music and food.
Jazzfest & Live Stages: Two stages are providing a continuous soundtrack for the weekend. The main stage near State Street features a rotating lineup of 17 groups, ranging from regional jazz ensembles to contemporary dance troupes.
Culinary Row: 25 food trucks are serving everything from “festival classics” like Farm Show milkshakes and funnel cakes to gourmet options like hibachi, stuffed waffles, and crab cakes.
HBGFest: Located within the festival grounds, the HBG Flea has curated a special section highlighting nearly 50 local Central Pennsylvania vendors, emphasizing the city’s homegrown creative economy.
For the younger set, Kidsfest (located near Walnut Street) is offering free interactive activities, including face painting, DIY sidewalk chalk stations, and take-home art kits.
A major highlight of this year’s event is the Community Art Project. Under the guidance of local artist Linda Billet, attendees are contributing to a large-scale mosaic. Once completed and fired, the collaborative piece will be permanently installed at John Harris High School.
