The City of Harrisburg has secured a $13 million settlement payout to help fund the ongoing reconstruction of Midtown’s historic Broad Street Market following the devastating fire that gutted the market’s brick building.
City officials announced that the multi-million-dollar settlement will go directly toward offseting the soaring costs of restoration, bringing critical financial relief to a project whose price tag has climbed amid structural complications and supply chain demands.
The Broad Street Market, built in 1863 and recognized as one of the oldest continuously operated public market houses in the United States, suffered catastrophic damage during a major blaze in 2023. It forced local vendors to relocate to a temporary structure in the neighboring grass lot while city leaders finalized restoration plans.
The settlement comes a month after city officials said the opening would be pushed back to summer 2027 due to past contractor availability, weather, and supplies.
