Central Pennsylvania runners and walkers can help provide additional comfort and support to hospice patients and caregivers by participating in the 12th annual Homeland Hospice 5K and Memory Walk on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Rossmoyne Business Center in Mechanicsburg.
Homeland Hospice, a nonprofit community outreach program of Homeland Center, provides compassionate end-of-life care and support for patients and families. Money raised through the Homeland Hospice 5K and Memory Walk helps fund services such as massage therapy, music therapy and additional in-home relief hours. Proceeds also support residents of Homeland Center whose financial resources have been exhausted.
“The 5K and Memory Walk brings people together around two important purposes: remembering those they love and helping care for others in our community,” said Myra Badorf, assistant director of development for Homeland Hospice. “Every registration and sponsorship strengthens our ability to provide comfort and meaningful support to the patients, families and residents we serve.”
The event will take place at the Rossmoyne Business Center, 5000 Ritter Road, Mechanicsburg. The professionally timed 5K will begin at 9 a.m. Participants may also choose the Memory Walk, which is wheelchair and stroller accessible.
Community support helped the 2025 Homeland Hospice 5K and Memory Walk raise over $80,000 for hospice services and benevolent care thanks to more than 400 participants.
This year’s gathering will offer opportunities for both competitive and recreational participation. Runners may complete the timed 5K, while individuals and families seeking a less competitive experience may join the Memory Walk. The morning will also include a moment of remembrance, light refreshments and an awards presentation at 10 a.m.
The top three male and female 5K finishers will receive $250 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place. Cash prizes will also go to the leading male and female finishers in eight age brackets. All first, second and third-place winners will receive ribbons. Additional prizes will recognize the largest team and the oldest and youngest participants, and participating dogs will receive treats.
All participants must register. The registration fee is $25 for individuals ages 13 and older, while children 12 and under may participate free of charge. To guarantee an event t-shirt, registration must be completed by Thursday, Sept. 3. Registrations received after that date will receive t-shirts while supplies last. Online registration closes Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 4:30 p.m. Race day registration will be available from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m.
Participants also can honor the memory of a loved one by adding their name to the front of the event t-shirt with a $25 donation. Names must be submitted by Thursday, Sept. 3.
The Homeland Hospice 5K and Memory Walk is made possible through the generous support of sponsors and community partners. Sponsorship opportunities are available at multiple levels, providing organizations with opportunities for recognition while supporting a meaningful cause.
