A surprise announcement has set central Pennsylvania abuzz as the Carlisle Fairgrounds revealed it will host the inaugural Carlisle State Fair later this month. Touted by organizers as “the region’s largest fair of its kind,” the nine-day event is scheduled to run from June 26 through July 4.
According to a social media announcement from the Carlisle Fairgrounds, the venue will undergo a dramatic transformation to bring a classic, large-scale carnival experience back to the borough.
“It’s sure to bring back fond memories you may have from childhood and give your family memories that will be sure to last a lifetime,” the Fairgrounds stated.
The upcoming fair promises a massive layout of attractions aimed at families and thrill-seekers alike. Highlights of the event include:
30+ State Fair-Style Rides: A sprawling midway featuring high-speed thrill rides, family classics, and a dedicated “Kiddieland” for younger children.
Free Headline Entertainment: Admission to the fair grounds includes access to unique touring acts, including the Aguiar Bros Circus & Thrill Show, the Sea Lion Splash Show, and a traveling petting zoo.
The Pork Chop Revue: A crowd-favorite animal exhibition featuring performing pigs, previously highlighted on America’s Got Talent.
Classic Fair Food & Games: Dozens of vendors offering traditional midway eats, from funnel cakes to deep-fried treats, alongside skill-based carnival games.
While the event name has sparked nostalgia—and some confusion—among long-time residents, venue officials were quick to clarify the nature of the fair.
In the mid-20th century, the historic Carlisle Fair was a staple of local culture, operating from 1946 until it was discontinued in 1984 so the property owners could pivot exclusively to automotive shows.
In a clarifying statement, the Fairgrounds emphasized that the 2026 Carlisle State Fair is not a revival of that historic local institution. Instead, it is an independently promoted commercial event.
“The event is being organized and operated by an outside fair promoter that has rented our facility, similar to other events hosted at the Fairgrounds throughout the year,” management clarified. “We are sharing info about the event because it’s taking place at our venue.”
Gates for the State Fair are set to open on Friday, June 26, running daily through the Independence Day holiday. Detailed hours, ticketing information, and parking maps are expected to be released on the Carlisle Fairgrounds official events page in the coming days.
