A state prison inmate is facing felony charges after corrections officials intercepted outgoing letters allegedly containing threats directed at Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, First Lady Lori Shapiro, and the Governor’s Residence in Harrisburg.

Corey Alan Bennett, 34, was charged with terroristic threats following an investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police. Bennett, a native of Tennessee, is currently incarcerated at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) Camp Hill in Cumberland County.

According to court documents and state police reports, the incident unfolded when staff members at SCI Camp Hill intercepted two letters written by Bennett intended for two separate county clerk offices.

Upon inspecting the outgoing mail, prison personnel discovered detailed threats targeted directly at the Governor, the First Lady, and the executive mansion.

State police reported that during a subsequent interview, Bennett admitted to drafting the threatening notes.

The charges against Bennett come amidst heightened security protocols around the state’s top executive and the Governor’s Residence.

The threat follows an April 2025 arson attack on the mansion, in which an intruder breached the perimeter, smashed windows, and threw Molotov cocktails into the building while the Shapiro family slept inside. That individual pleaded guilty to terrorism and attempted murder charges later that year.
