Christian Churches United of the Tri-County Area has announced plans for the 2020 Joy to the Burg to prevent homelessness and provide assistance to the homeless in Central Pennsylvania. Again, this year, area artists, local businesses and organizations are coming together to create a Christmas album and concert to raise money to help the CCU address homelessness in our community. With the COVID-19 crises, we believe the need to be even greater and are looking for your help with this year’s project.
Last year the Joy to the Burg mission generated nearly $24,000 through album, drop card and concert ticket sales. The funds raised made it possible to address emergency needs including establishing a new winter shelter for homeless women.
This year we have 18 artists recording their material for the album. Karns Foods will have the CDs and Gift Cards available at all nine (9) of their locations throughout Central Pennsylvania. We will have on-line sales available for the CD, Gift Cards and download beginning November immediately on our website (joytotheburg.com)
Sheldon Jones, Project Organizer, said, “We are enthused to build upon the success we had in 2019 and are looking forward to having our albums and drop cards available in all nine Karns store. Hundreds of people have eagerly united to create the Joy to the Burg. Now I hope thousands of you in the greater Harrisburg area will purchase the album or drop card to benefit the homeless. And remember – the album makes a great gift.”
Steve Schwartz, Director of Development for Christian Churches United, said, “These are challenging times – especially for vulnerable populations in our community, like people on the street or families who’ve lost their jobs and housing during this pandemic. Due to the surge in need, Joy to the Burg 2020 is more important than ever as it raises funds so CCU’s homelessness programs can help these people get back on their feet.”
