A Lancaster woman has been arrested and charged after authorities say she pushed her 63-year-old mother during an argument, causing her to fall down a flight of stairs to her death.
Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams announced Thursday that 34-year-old Elissa Blair Waltman faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and simple assault in connection with the fatal incident.
According to investigators, the altercation took place on April 5 at a residence in the 100 block of Pickwick Place in Millersville.
Police allege that during a dispute, Waltman shoved her mother, Eileen Flugarth, into a wall. The force of the confrontation caused Flugarth to fall down a staircase outside the home, resulting in severe injuries.
First responders arrived at the scene shortly after 10:30 a.m. following emergency calls. Officers found Flugarth bleeding and severely injured at the bottom of the staircase.
Police rendered immediate medical assistance until emergency medical services arrived. Flugarth was rushed to a local hospital for intensive care. Despite medical efforts, Flugarth succumbed to the trauma sustained in the fall and passed away four days later.
Following an investigation by local police and the District Attorney’s office, formal charges were filed against Waltman.
