Only four vaccinated individuals—three adults and one child in Centre, Jefferson, Lancaster, and Lycoming counties—have contracted the virus. None required hospitalization.

DOH staff have administered nearly 4,300 MMR doses across 130 pop-up clinics since April, contributing to over 6,300 total doses given at State Health Centers this year.

Provider-administered MMR vaccines rose from a monthly average of 25,000 to over 46,000 doses in August alone.

Measles is highly contagious and spreads through the air, remaining active in an area for up to two hours after an infected person leaves. Symptoms typically appear 7 to 21 days after exposure, beginning with a high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes, followed by a rash that spreads downward from the head.

Anyone experiencing symptoms or suspecting exposure should contact their healthcare provider or call the DOH hotline at 877-PA-HEALTH (877-724-3258).
