The legal situation surrounding former Gettysburg Mayor Chad Carr has intensified as state police filed a second round of criminal charges on Wednesday. The new allegations come after three additional victims contacted authorities, prompted by the initial news of Carr’s arrest earlier this month.
Carr, who resigned from office in early March after serving only three months as mayor, is now facing a litany of charges including sexual assault, corruption of minors, and soliciting photos of sex acts from a child.
According to charging documents, the new victims describe a history of grooming and assault spanning over a decade.
One victim, who met Carr through the Gettysburg Community Theater, reported that he viewed Carr as a mentor. While living in Carr’s apartment in 2015, the victim—then 23—allegedly woke up to Carr on top of him. Despite repeatedly saying “no,” the victim states Carr held him down and assaulted him, telling him not to be scared.
A second victim came forward after seeing Carr’s face in a police press release. He alleged that in 2015, when he was just 16, Carr met him via the app Grindr. After being provided alcohol at Carr’s home, the teen was allegedly sexually assaulted despite his verbal protests.
A third individual reported being groomed by Carr while attending a summer camp at the Eichelberger Performing Arts Center at age 15. The victim alleged that Carr requested explicit photos from him after learning the teen was involved in a similar relationship with one of Carr’s close associates.
