What was intended to be a sweet start to Hersheypark’s 120th operating season turned chaotic Friday evening as multiple fights broke out among groups of teenagers, resulting in several arrests and ejections.
The Derry Township Police Department reported that officers were dispatched to the park around 6:50 pm Friday evening to assist park security with “disorderly patrons.” According to law enforcement, several brawls erupted between groups of teenagers in various high-traffic areas of the park, including near the Storm Runner roller coaster and the Chocolatetown entrance.
The situation escalated quickly, prompting a heavy police presence. In addition to Derry Township officers, Troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police and officers from surrounding municipal departments were called in to restore order.
During the initial investigation, two juveniles and one adult were arrested and taken into custody. Numerous other individuals were ejected from the park and banned from returning.
Police are currently reviewing security footage and bystander video—some of which has already circulated on social media—to identify additional “combatants” for potential charges.
Despite the visible unrest, authorities confirmed there were no reported injuries to park guests or those involved in the altercations.
Hershey Entertainment & Resorts issued a stern statement following the incident, emphasizing that the behavior displayed on opening day will not be tolerated.
“The safety of our guests and team members is our top priority,” a park spokesperson said. “The behavior exhibited by these individuals does not align with our values. We have a zero-tolerance policy for such actions, and those who do not abide by our Code of Conduct are not welcome on our property.”
The park remained open following the incidents, with officials noting that while the fights caused “minor interruptions,” operations returned to normal quickly. The park is expected to continue its Spring Weekends schedule as planned, though guests may notice an increased security presence throughout the remainder of the holiday weekend.
Derry Township Police are asking anyone with information or additional video of the incidents to contact their department as the investigation continues.
