After being in office for nearly 20 years, State Representative Sheryl Delozier has decided not to run for re-election in 2026. The Republican, who represents the 88th District in Cumberland County, announced her retirement from the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, concluding a chapter of service she describes as the honor of her lifetime.
“It has been a tremendous privilege to serve a community I know so well and the people I respect so deeply,” Delozier said. “I have always been humbled by the trust placed in me, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside residents, local leaders, and colleagues to make our West Shore communities stronger places to live, work, and raise a family.”
Delozier began her first term in January 2009. Reflecting on her time in office, Delozier highlighted efforts to strengthen the local economy, ensure government works effectively for all residents, pass fiscally responsible budgets without raising taxes, secure record funding for local schools, and obtain critical resources for police, fire, and other first responders. She also authored legislation to prevent tolling on the South Bridge—an issue of significant importance to West Shore families and commuters.
A dedicated advocate for victims of crime, Representative Delozier worked in a bipartisan manner to combat human trafficking, protect victims of child abuse, support survivors of rape and domestic violence, and help advance a crime victims’ bill of rights in the Pennsylvania Constitution.
Delozier also understood that while punishment for crimes should be swift and certain, people make mistakes and deserve second chances after they have served their debt to society. She once again worked in a bipartisan manner and authored the nation’s first clean slate law, which earned her national acclaim and continues to be replicated across the country.
“Serving in the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives has been one of the most meaningful chapters of my life. I am thankful for the trust and partnership of my family, staff, colleagues, constituents, and friends, whose support made this work possible. As I turn the page, I do so with gratitude and appreciation for all we have accomplished,” said Delozier.
Her service has been recognized by organizations throughout Pennsylvania, including being named “Government Leader of the Year” by the Harrisburg Regional Chamber & CREDC and receiving Allegheny College’s “Prize for Civility in Public Life in Pennsylvania.”
