PennDOT needs Full-Time Workers for Seasonal Summer Jobs

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

College Student Summer Workers – $13.56 hourly
Assist in the completion of seasonal maintenance work, crash system input and analysis, and maintenance and custodial services at roadside rest facilities. Many students also perform laboring and flagging duties in maintenance organizations and at highway worksites.
Highway Maintenance Workers – $13.56 hourly
Perform manual labor duties on highway maintenance and construction projects, assist permanent sign crews with tasks such as erecting and maintaining traffic signs and delineators, and related tasks at work sites along the highway.

 

Custodial Workers – $13.56 hourly
Provide custodial support within and outside roadside rest facilities.

Semi-Skilled Laborers – $15.28 hourly
Perform manual work in support of the construction and maintenance of various buildings, grounds, or public works projects. Starting salary for this position is $15.28 hourly.

Drill Operators – $17.21 hourly
Assist in construction projects by operating drilling equipment used in surface/sub-surface exploration, ensuring that soil, pavement, and rock samples are properly lifted, and by performing related duties as required.  

Tunnel Maintainers – $19.84 hourly
Engage in tunnel maintenance, traffic control/monitoring, and incident management to ensure the efficient flow of traffic through tunnels and surrounding roadways.

Equipment Operators A – $15.28 – $18.31 hourly, based on location
Perform a variety of manual work duties such as unloading trucks, cleaning culverts, erecting signs, repairing guide rails/barriers, cutting grass/brush, digging ditches, and assisting line painting crews.

Equipment Operators B – $17.21 – $19.84 hourly, based on location
Run construction and maintenance equipment such as a backhoe, bulldozer, grader, rubber tire or steel wheel roller, assist mechanics in major repair to equipment and perform unskilled manual work such as unloading trucks, guide rail and barrier repair, etc.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

College Student Summer Workers – Enrollment in an approved full-time, post-secondary education program for the next semester, in good academic standing, and at least 18 years of age. Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
Special Requirement: Certain positions may require possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License.

Highway Maintenance Workers – No previous experience or training required. Must have the ability to lift and move heavy objects and be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.

Custodial Workers – Previous custodial and janitorial experience preferred, but not required.

Semi-Skilled Laborers – One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction.
Special Requirement: Certain positions may require possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania’s Driver’s License.

Drill Operators – Two years of experience in the operation of core and auger boring equipment or equivalent.
Special Requirements: Possession of a valid PA Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with Air Brake (L) restriction removed and must demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.

Tunnel Maintainers – Two years of experience in highway maintenance repair work, which includes six months experience in the operation of single-chassis trucks.
Special Requirements: Possession of a valid PA Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with Air Brake (L) restriction removed and must demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.

Equipment Operators A – Graduation from a CDL Training School; OR Two months of experience in the operation and maintenance of single-chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of between 26,000 and 32,000 pounds or any combination unit over 26,000 pounds with a tow greater than or equal to a 10,000 pound trailer; OR Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program employed by the Commonwealth of PA; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training. Preferred candidates have experience operating construction and maintenance equipment such as rollers, tractor-maintainers, and front-loaders or hi-lifts. All candidates will be subject to a driving skills test as part of the interview process. Most of these tests will be conducted in a vehicle equipped with a manual transmission.
Special Requirements: Possession of a valid PA Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B with Air Brake (L) Restriction removed; valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate.

Equipment Operators B – One year of experience in the operation of construction and maintenance equipment; OR One year of experience as a Transportation Equipment Operator A employed by the Commonwealth of PA; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training. Preferred candidates should possess one year of experience in the operation of trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 or greater, and experience operating construction and maintenance equipment such as a backhoe, bulldozer, grader, roller, small paver, self-propelled road widener, conveyor loader, etc. All candidates will be subject to a driving skills test as part of the interview process. Most of these tests will be conducted in a vehicle equipped with a manual transmission.
Special Requirements: Possession of a valid PA Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B with Air Brake (L) Restriction removed; valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
