Throughout May, a bipartisan group of Pennsylvania state legislators will be visiting long-term care facilities across the Commonwealth to meet with residents, staff, and providers. The visits will focus on the importance of preserving access to quality resident care by ensuring long-term care facilities have the resources needed to deliver services at the bedside, support staff, and care for Pennsylvania’s aging population.
The visits will highlight the urgent need for legislative action to strengthen and sustain the long-term care continuum, including:
- Establishing a meaningful floor on the Budget Adjustment Factor (BAF) to provide stable, predictable Medicaid funding that directly supports resident care and daily operations in nursing facilities.
- Strengthening the long-term care workforce through recruitment, retention, and training initiatives that help ensure residents receive consistent, high-quality care.
- Advancing solutions to address the “Medicaid Pending” backlog, which delays reimbursement for care already being provided to residents and places significant financial strain on facilities serving vulnerable Pennsylvanians.
By hearing directly from residents and caregivers, lawmakers will gain firsthand insight into the challenges facing long-term care providers and the importance of investing in policies that keep funding focused on care delivery, workforce stability, and access to services for seniors across the Commonwealth.
