You’ve heard of the slogan “Live, Laugh, Love”. Christine Vasiliades of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania has her own spin on that. “Live, Work, Play” is Christine’s creation. It’s also the name of her visitor’s guide book that promotes tourism and businesses across Central Pennsylvania.
Stay at a hotel and you will likely find “Live, Work, Play” in the room. The publication showcases local events, restaurants, and shopping. “I want visitors to know that Live, Work, Play highlights the best of Central and SouthCentral Pennsylvania. I want them to have a memorable experience knowing that a local person put the book together”, said Vasiliades.
This is a new adventure for the 55-year-old. Vasiliades spent 20 years in the restaurant business but a few years ago, she wanted a change. Vasiliades knew she had to reinvent herself.
She had an idea for the book but truly didn’t know how to put it together. Vasiliades hit the ground running, going door to door and never looked back. “Oh my gosh, it was so scary. I didn’t have a product. It was just me and my big fat Greek mouth!” said Vasiliades.
Eventually, Vasiliades says her big fat Greek mouth paid off! She made an impact and businesses started realizing the value of the book and putting it in front of a captive audience, visitors in hotels looking for things to do and places to see.
There are now 2 editions of “Live, Work, Play”. One edition highlights people and places in Harrisburg, Hershey, and Carlisle. The other edition, “The Lincoln Highway”, focuses on Adams, York, and Franklin Counties. Vasiliades has covered the area with more than 10,000 copies and is on a mission to produce even more. “My next goal is to produce a third edition that will put the spotlight on other locations in Pennsylvania”, said Vasiliades.
