Plan to Help More Disabled Veterans in PA with Real Estate Tax Relief

More of Pennsylvania’s disabled veterans would receive financial relief through a reduction in their real estate taxes under a bill introduced by state Rep. Pam Snyder, D-Greene/Fayette/Washington.

House Bill 29 would expand the state’s Disabled Veterans Real Estate Tax Exemption Program to include all disabled veterans, providing them with a real estate tax exemption amount equal to the percentage of their disability. For example, a veteran who is classified by the Veterans Administration as being 60 percent disabled would be entitled to a 60 percent reduction in their real estate taxes. Currently, only veterans who are classified as 100 percent disabled by the VA can receive this exemption.

“These veterans served our country with honor and distinction, with some returning home with significant physical impairments and financial challenges,” Snyder said. “My legislation would expand this program to help all disabled veterans in the commonwealth. These men and women have made great sacrifices for our freedom, we should do no less than provide them with the assistance and support they truly deserve.”

Snyder’s bill is before the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee for consideration.
