The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) announced today that Representative Mike Peifer has been re-elected to chair the PHEAA Board of Directors. Senator Wayne D. Fontana has been re-elected as vice chairman of the PHEAA Board.
Now serving his eighth term, Representative Peifer has represented his constituents of the 139th Legislative District in Pike and Wayne Counties since 2006. He currently serves as Chairman of the House Finance Committee and as a member of the Professional Licensure Committee. He has been a member of PHEAA Board of Directors since 2010.
“PHEAA plays a critical role in helping Pennsylvania students and their families afford college – especially today as millions of our residents are struggling through so many unforeseen challenges that have been created by COVID-19”, said Representative Mike Peifer, PHEAA Board Chairman. “It’s an honor to once again serve as Chairman of the Board and I look forward to working with my colleagues to help students achieve their higher education goals regardless of the obstacles.”
PHEAA was created in 1963 by the Pennsylvania General Assembly and has since evolved into one of the nation’s leading student aid organizations. PHEAA’s earnings are used to support its public service mission and to pay its operating costs, including administration of the Pennsylvania State Grant and other state-funded student aid programs.
“It is rewarding to know that the decisions made by this Board – especially during such challenging times – can have a positive and lasting effect on so many Pennsylvania students,” said Senator Wayne D. Fontana. “I look forward to working with Chairman Peifer and my colleagues as we continue to identify new ways to improve access to higher education in Pennsylvania, especially for those who have the most financial need.”
Senator Fontana has represented the 42nd Senatorial District, Allegheny County, since 2005. He serves as a member of the Senate Community, Economic and Recreational Development, Game and Fisheries, Law and Justice, Rules and Executive Nominations, and Urban Affairs and House Committees. Senator Fontana has served as a member of the PHEAA Board since 2008.
