A “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) rally featuring U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr,. is scheduled for Wednesday, January 21, in the State Capitol Rotunda in Harrisburg.

Doors open at 10:00 am, and the rally begins at 11:00 am.  The event is open to the public and does not require an RSVP. Seating/standing space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Key things Kennedy has been pushing for as part of the MAHA agenda include:

  • Improving Nutrition and Food Policy: This involves efforts to reduce the consumption of ultra-processed foods and artificial dyes, which the agenda links to chronic childhood diseases. Specific actions include proposing to restrict the use of SNAP (food stamp) benefits for purchasing soda and candy, updating federal dietary guidelines to prioritize whole foods and protein over processed carbohydrates, and removing restrictions on whole milk sales in schools.
  • Reforming Vaccine Policy: A central, and often controversial, aspect of MAHA is the push for “vaccine transparency” and “medical freedom”. This has involved restructuring the CDC’s vaccine advisory committee, questioning the safety of certain vaccines (including the MMR and COVID-19 vaccines), and calling for a reevaluation of the childhood vaccine schedule and the current system for compensating vaccine injuries.
  • Addressing Environmental Toxins: Drawing on his background as an environmental lawyer, Kennedy advocates for policies to reduce exposure to environmental contaminants and pollutants, such as pesticides, “forever chemicals” (PFAS), and fluoride in drinking water. His department works with agencies like the EPA to promote policies for a cleaner environment.
  • Promoting Alternative and Holistic Medicine: The MAHA agenda includes incorporating integrative medicine approaches that combine conventional treatments with evidence-based complementary therapies and lifestyle changes (like diet and exercise) to prevent disease.
  • Increasing Healthcare Price Transparency and Reducing Drug Costs: Kennedy has pushed for greater transparency in healthcare costs and advocated for the federal government to have more power to negotiate prescription drug prices.
  • Investigating the Causes of Chronic Disease: The MAHA movement is rooted in the belief that the rise in chronic disease requires a focus on root causes. A MAHA commission and reports have been used to study potential links between autism and other conditions to environmental or medical “interventions”.
