Ahead of the busy back-to-school season, The GIANT Company and Mars Snacking joined forces to donate $20,000 alongside a tractor-trailer filled with breakfast foods and snacks to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.

The initiative comes at a crucial time for the nonprofit, which routinely experiences a surge in demand for child and family food assistance as summer draws to a close and students prepare to head back to the classroom.

In addition to the monetary and food contribution, employee volunteers from both companies rolled up their sleeves at the food bank’s primary distribution center on Corey Road in Harrisburg. The team spent the day sorting and packing meal boxes intended for statewide delivery through the nonprofit’s network of local community partners.

“When students are nourished, they can focus on learning,” The GIANT Company shared in a statement, emphasizing their commitment to tackling food insecurity across local school communities.

The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank serves 27 counties across the central region, partnering with roughly 1,100 local agencies and meal programs to assist nearly 278,000 individuals each month. Representatives from the food bank noted that corporate partnerships and volunteer initiatives like this make a direct impact in keeping pantries stocked when families need help the most.
