After a long two-year hiatus that left a noticeable gap in the city’s summer skyline, the Pride of the Susquehanna is officially returning to the water. The Harrisburg Area Riverboat Society announced this week that the iconic red-and-white paddlewheeler has completed its extensive maintenance and is ready to launch its 2026 season.

“We are thrilled to return to the river this summer,” said Deborah Donahue, Board Chair for the Harrisburg Area Riverboat Society. “We invite people of all ages to ride the Pride with us and see why everyone has been cheering for our comeback.”

The vessel, which spent the last two seasons in dry dock for essential repairs and navigating challenges posed by the river’s fluctuating water levels, will kick off its comeback with a special event. The first official cruise is scheduled for Friday, May 22, featuring the smooth sounds of renowned jazz pianist Steve Rudolph.

Public sightseeing cruises will follow immediately, beginning Saturday, May 23, just in time for the Memorial Day weekend rush.

The society is leaning heavily into community favorites and tribute cruises to celebrate the boat’s “second maiden voyage.”

  • Memorial Day Tribute: On Monday, May 25, the Pride will host two special dinner cruises dedicated to veterans and active-duty military members.

  • Signature Sightseeing: The classic 45-minute narrated tours will return to their daily schedule between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

  • Themed Excursions: Fans can look forward to the return of “Riverboat Worship” services on Sunday mornings, along with murder mystery dinners, beer tastings, and family-themed “Princess and Superhero” cruise.

The Pride is more than just a tourist attraction; it is one of only six authentic paddlewheel riverboats remaining in the United States. Unlike many modern replicas, its twin paddlewheels are the sole source of propulsion and steering, making it a functional piece of American maritime history.

As the “Queen of the Susquehanna” prepares to churn the waters once more, the city is bracing for a vibrant summer of riverfront activity. Whether you’re a history buff or just looking for the best view of the Harrisburg sunset, the Pride is ready to welcome you back aboard.
