Three people, including two Pennsylvania State Troopers, were shot Wednesday evening in Franklin County, according to Pennsylvania State Police at Chambersburg.

Police say the incident occurred when two troopers were responding to a call in southern Franklin County and exchanged gunfire with “one of the suspects.” Both troopers were injured and flown to the hospital for treatment. Their condition is unknown at this time.

The incident occurred on I-81 southbound at the Exit 3 exit ramp in Antrim Township around 6:30 p.m., police said.

State Police confirmed that “one of the suspects” was also shot during the exchange, but they have not released information on whether that individual was transported to a hospital.

The PSP did not release details about the nature of the initial incident that prompted the troopers to respond. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Pennsylvania State Troopers Association (PSTA) President Stephen Polishan issued the following statement:

“Please join the PSTA in praying for these brave troopers and their families. Each day, the men and women of the Pennsylvania State Police go to work prepared to give their last full measure. We can never thank them enough for their incredible bravery.”
