In a match made in Central Pennsylvania heaven, the legendary Williams Grove Speedway has officially announced a partnership with Mechanicsburg native and comedy superstar Shane Gillis for an upcoming comedy series project set right in the heart of sprint car country.
The partnership will begin next Friday for the speedway’s Fan Appreciation Night to promote the Season 3 of Tires coming to Netflix on August 13th! Martins Potato Chips, Hoseheads, and J&S Classics will provide fans with free chips and candy! Fans will have access to the back pit area from 5:30-6:15PM to meet the drivers.
Gillis, who grew up just minutes from the venue in Mechanicsburg, has never shied away from his Central PA roots. A frequent spectator in the Williams Grove infield during race nights, the comedian has routinely shown love for dirt track culture throughout his career.
“Growing up around here, Friday nights at the Grove are sacred,” Gillis said in a statement regarding the partnership. “To be able to come home, bring a full production crew to the track, and showcase this world to a massive audience is awesome. Plus, it’s a great excuse to watch sprint cars and call it ‘working.'”
Williams Grove management expressed equal enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting the massive boost in visibility for the historic track and local dirt racing community.
The partnership marks another massive milestone for Gillis, who has rapidly become one of the biggest names in comedy. Coming off the success of his Netflix workplace sitcom Tires (also set in Pennsylvania) and a record-breaking stadium show in Philadelphia, returning to his hometown track brings his career full-circle.
For local race fans, the news is a welcome crossover. Friday nights at the Grove are already known for loud engines and cold drinks—now, they come with a Hollywood crew in tow.
